Buy Box troubleshooting: what to check when the Featured Offer changes

A missing purchase box, another seller being featured and a lower Featured Offer share are different problems. Diagnose the offer before changing the price.

1. Identify the Featured Offer event

The Featured Offer, commonly called the Buy Box, is the offer displayed with the main purchase controls on a product detail page. The product page and the selling offer are different objects. Your content can remain unchanged while another seller’s offer is displayed.

Record whether there is no featured offer at all, another seller is featured, or your account report shows a lower share over time. Capture the child ASIN, your SKU, marketplace, condition, timestamp, delivery destination, selected seller, item price, shipping and promised arrival. One browser view does not measure your whole Featured Offer share.

2. Use current offer guidance rather than an old eligibility checklist

Amazon’s current Featured Offer help, in indexed text checked October 16, 2026, states that the separate seller eligibility requirement was removed in the US as of September 2026. The EU and UK announced removal on July 20, 2026. Offers may still not be selected if they are not competitive. Check the current help and diagnostics for your own store; older articles can describe earlier eligibility rules.

This distinction matters operationally. Paying for a plan change or switching fulfillment solely to satisfy an old blanket rule is not a diagnosis. Listing restrictions, stock and shipping problems can still prevent a sale, and being evaluated does not guarantee selection.

A product with one seller can still lack a Featured Offer. Do not assume the absence proves a new competitor arrived. If the issue is that the product itself is not appearing in search, use the search-visibility diagnosis as a separate investigation.

4. Verify stock and delivery before repricing

Inspect sellable stock for the affected SKU and the actual shipping promise to the recorded destination. Inventory shown in a business system is not necessarily inventory available for this customer order. Check the relevant fulfillment and offer status rather than assuming that inbound stock is already purchasable.

Compare like with like: condition, selected child, destination and the same observation time. Delivery settings can explain why an offer is visible in one place but unavailable in another. Correct inaccurate stock or shipping settings through the appropriate workflow; do not claim a delivery promise you cannot fulfill.

5. Read the price diagnostic and protect your floor

Use the available Pricing Health information to identify any issue Amazon attaches to the offer. Save the reference shown, the period and the reason. Compare total customer price, including shipping, with relevant offers. Keep conditional promotions, business prices and subscriptions separate from a generally available price.

A pricing alert is an input to a commercial decision, not permission to sell below cost. Calculate your own floor with applicable fees, product cost, fulfillment, returns assumptions and required margin. If the recommended competitive price is below that floor, investigate the economics rather than repeatedly lowering an automated rule.

If a displayed reference appears to describe a different product or condition, document that mismatch and use the available support process. Do not promise a manual override or an immediate resolution. A seller-location classification cannot reveal the rival’s actual landed cost.

6. Compare observations with account reports

Separate an observed seller change from the Featured Offer percentage reported for a defined period. Record the report’s denominator and coverage before comparing days or products. An alert can show a change detected at a check; it cannot reconstruct every change between checks.

Build a short event log with previous state, detected state, observation time, affected SKU, stock, total price and delivery promise. Use the price-monitoring workflow for comparable snapshots and Scoutvo alerts to inspect available monitoring options. Confirm source coverage and update timing rather than assuming continuous observation.

When sales and reported share move together, investigate the relationship without treating it as a controlled experiment. Traffic, promotions, stock and customer mix may also change. There is no defensible universal percentage of purchases to apply to every category.

7. Make one supported correction and recheck

  1. Resolve a specific stock, delivery, listing or pricing issue supported by the diagnostics.
  2. Record the change, commercial limits, owner and timestamp.
  3. Confirm the correct SKU and store show the intended saved state.
  4. Observe the customer offer under comparable delivery conditions.
  5. Evaluate the appropriate account report when its reporting period is available.

For unresolved cases, submit the ASIN, SKU, marketplace, exact issue text, pricing reference, fulfillment state and dated screenshots without credentials or customer data. A useful request identifies the mismatch you need explained. It does not ask support to guarantee a permanent Buy Box win.

Keep the response proportionate. Another seller being featured once does not justify a price war. A verified error deserves a correction; an unexplained movement deserves better evidence.

Frequently asked questions

Does the lowest price guarantee the Buy Box?

No. Compare the full offer, including delivery and stock, and examine the current account diagnostics. A low item price alone does not guarantee selection.

Can a product with only one seller lack a Featured Offer?

Yes. Having one available offer does not guarantee it will be featured. Check shipping availability, stock and any pricing issues for the affected offer.

Does FBA automatically guarantee the Featured Offer?

No. Fulfillment method alone is not a guarantee. Compare the actual offer conditions and consult the current guidance for your marketplace rather than relying on an old eligibility checklist.

Why do two people see different Featured Offers?

Shipping location, delivery filters and Prime-related offer conditions can differ. Record those conditions before comparing observations; one view does not establish a universal seller position.

Should I cut the price as soon as an alert arrives?

First verify the event, your offer status, stock, delivery and pricing diagnostics. Reprice only within a commercial floor based on your actual costs and goals.
